Katie Ericson, owner of Northwest Martial Arts Coos Bay:
“As a seasoned martial artist, competitor, and gym owner, I cannot praise Rose O’Reilly-Hoisington’s approach to empowerment-based self-defense enough. Self-defense can easily be confused in this society as a solely physical topic. However, through Rose’s teaching and demonstration of empowerment-based self-defense, it is clear that we need teachers like Rose to address aspects of self-defense, both verbal and physical, that have largely been ignored in the martial arts community. Rose explains self-defense in ways that are real, practical, and inclusive for all persons, which is something that we need more of in this society. Her sincere, thoughtful, and empowering approach to self-defense is the first of its kind that I have seen in action. Working with Rose time and time again, I learned something new and empowering each time that I was able to integrate immediately and easily into my daily life, and I cannot recommend her teaching enough."
